The team behind RPG2013.

Recent highlights from the IET's team in Beijing.

The IET China team, based in Beijing, has recently signed up two new Academic Affiliates, welcomed the IET's head of registration and standards for a fruitful visit, and hosted some successful events. Read on for all the details…

New Academic Affiliates

Guangdong University of Technology signed up as an IET Academic Affiliate in September. Significantly, this is the first organisation from South China to join the programme.

In October, Beijing Institute of Technology’s School of Information and Electronics also signed up, bringing the total number of Academic Affiliates in China to 13. This year more than 30 of the Institute’s professors and 50 students will join as IET members.

Professional registration

IET head of registration and standards Mike Bridgefoot visited China in October to continue to develop the Institution's partnership with the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES), and carry out professional registration interviews in Beijing and Shanghai. This included nine Chartered Engineer (CEng) candidates and four Incorporated Engineer (IEng) candidates, who were all Chinese members of the IET.

Successful networking event

An IET networking event was held in Beijing in August, featuring a speech from Professor Hu Bin from Lanzhou University’s School of Information Science and Engineering. About 50 professionals from various sectors joined the event.

RPG heads to Beijing

The 2nd IET Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG2013) was held in Beijing in September. The event focussed on wind and solar power generation and integration with the grid, and was hosted jointly by the IET and the North China Electric Power University.

Over 200 experts and scholars from all over the world attended the conference, which provided an opportunity to share views on renewable energy’s future development. The majority believed that power storage technology will be very crucial to realise large-scale applications of renewable electrical power.

The next IET RPG conference will be held in Europe in 2014.
