The IET is a patron of the disaster relief charity.
As part of the IET’s patronage of disaster relief charity RedR, we encourage members and staff to take part in and support upcoming events.
The IET became a patron of RedR in November 2010 at a reception where the Institution was welcomed on board by HRH The Princess Royal. RedR works on an international level to improve the effectiveness of disaster relief, by delivering essential training and support to relief organisations and their staff, and by providing skilled professionals to humanitarian programmes.
It is important for the IET to support the work of RedR as Chartered Engineers and Engineering Technicians play a pivotal role in helping communities recover from natural disasters. The rebuilding of water, telecommunications and power networks is vital to recovery and gives engineers across the world a chance to really make a difference.
The following events are opportunities for staff and members to raise money for RedR:
April – London Marathon
May – Superhero Run (London)
June – London to Brighton bike ride
June – London to Paris bike ride
September – Great North Run (Newcastle)
October – Royal Parks Half Marathon (London)
If people would like to volunteer to cheer, organise a whole cheering squad, or take part in the event themselves, they can contact Katie Grey via firstname.lastname@example.org.
