The Channel Islands Group of Professional Engineers celebrates its 50-year anniversary.
Promoting and supporting professional engineering in the Channel Islands, the CIGPE (Channel Islands Group of Professional Engineers) is celebrating its 50-year anniversary this month.
The Channel Islands Group of Professional Engineers is the representative body for the professional engineering institutions in the Channel Islands, representing the IET, the Institute of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Institute of Structural Engineers.
The inaugural meeting of the Channel Island Group of Professional Engineers (CIGPE) took place on 16 April 1963. Since then, CIGPE has been involved in promoting and supporting professional engineering in the islands, assisting in the careers of future engineers. CIGPE works closely with local careers advisory services, inline with the training programmes of the sponsoring institutions.
CIGPE is a multidiscipline group of professional engineers and its members are an eclectic group of young and mature engineers. The group is subdivided into two sections, one for the Bailiwick of Jersey and one for the Bailiwick of Guernsey, with each section electing its own committee. The IET, along with other engineering institutions, has played an integral role to the success of the organisation, offering its support over the last 50 years.
Continuing professional development is encouraged for all members of the group and regular events are organised to bring specialists in engineering-related disciplines to both Jersey and Guernsey to present informative and entertaining lectures. These are open to both members and non-members of the group.
CIGPE also takes pleasure in co-ordinating the very popular black-tie annual CIGPE dinner in both Guernsey and Jersey. This year’s annual dinner is a special one, celebrating the 50th anniversary since its inauguration.
