Dr Hermann Hauser speaking at the IET Annual Dinner 2013.
Thought-provoking speeches at this year's networking event.
This year’s IET Annual Dinner was a great success, with over 1,100 guests attending, and thought-provoking speeches from Dr Hermann Hauser CBE and IET president Professor Andy Hopper.
The prestigious event was held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Thursday, 21 February. It was a great opportunity for IET members, guests and industry figures to network with others in the engineering and technology community.
The after-dinner speaker, Dr Hermann Hauser, is a serial entrepreneur and co-founder of Amadeus Capital Partners. He has a breadth of experience in developing and financing companies in the information technology sector, including Acorn Computers.
Dr Hauser opened his speech with his thoughts on innovation. He said: “Having done more than 100 investments in my life, of course I now know which makes an innovative investment, and what separates a successful innovation from unsuccessful ones. And the answer is, it’s random!”
He went onto outline the five waves of computing through history, from the first computers to modern-day ‘Google Glasses’. You can view his whole speech on IET.tv.
IET president Professor Andy Hopper also spoke at the dinner. He outlined the IET’s achievements in the last year, as well as some key points on innovation. Andy’s speech is also available on IET.tv.
