Project feasibility study now underway.
The ‘home’ of the IET, IET London: Savoy Place, is a building of character and history.
While it currently provides a high-quality venue for both the IET’s activities and external clients, the IET’s Board of Trustees has identified an opportunity to substantially improve its layout, functionality and infrastructure.
The aim is to not only provide a modern home for the IET over the coming decades, but also to preserve the building’s important heritage.
In 2011, the Board of Trustees commissioned an investigation into refurbishment options for IET London: Savoy Place. From three potential options they decided to move forward with a project feasibility study into a 'full modernisation' scheme for the building.
The project feasibility study is underway and will continue throughout 2012. The project team, consisting of both members and staff, is focusing on defining the IET’s future requirements for the building, and further developing the potential scheme in consultation with architects and the relevant planning authorities.
The findings of the project feasibility study including details of costs and operational impact will be presented to the Board of Trustees at the end of 2012. If the Trustees choose to proceed with the scheme as currently proposed, early 2013 would be a time of preparation. Work would then potentially commence in August 2013, with an anticipated duration of two years.
At its very essence, IET London: Savoy Place is a building for the IET’s members, and the project team is very keen to hear what members think of the upgrade proposal.
