IET past president Sir Robin Saxby

Sir Robin Saxby HonFIET is named 2012 recipient of the Dr Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award.

IET past president Sir Robin Saxby is today awarded GSA’s prestigious Dr Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award.

GSA is the unifying body of the global semiconductor industry and its Award recognises individuals for their exceptional contributions driving the development, innovation, growth and long-term opportunities for the semiconductor industry. The first GSA Exemplary Leadership Award was established in 1999 and was awarded to Dr Morris Chang, chairman and founder of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, whom the Award was subsequently named after. Dr Chang helped create the pure-play foundry business model, which has gained worldwide acceptance and is proven to be the backbone of the semiconductor company's success.

A technology entrepreneur, Sir Robin served as chairman, president and chief executive of technology company ARM Holdings plc, a world-leading semiconductor intellectual property supplier, at the heart of the development of digital electronic products. ARM’s CEO until 2001, Sir Robin was once described by a Morgan Stanley analyst as “the grit in the oyster that formed the pearl”.

He retired from the board at ARM upon taking up the role of IET president in 2006, remaining associated with ARM as chairman emeritus for the duration of his presidency. He retired from ARM in October 2007 and is today an angel investor and advisor to various technology start-ups.

“I am truly humbled to receive this year’s Dr Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award from the GSA. From a very early age, I considered myself destined for the electronics industry,” said Sir Robin. “Being recognised among my peers, as a pioneer in the semiconductor industry, is a true honour.”

The Dr Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award will be presented at the 2012 GSA Awards dinner celebration on 13 December 2012 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, California, USA.
