The refreshed IET China website.
The IET’s team in Beijing has been busy creating a refreshed Chinese language website and setting up a new programme of networking events for members.
To provide an interactive networking platform for engineers in Beijing, the IET China team has launched a regular activity called 'The IET Social - Engineers Network'.
Held on the last Friday of each month, the activity aims to help like-minded engineers exchange thoughts and share ideas, and also to offer advice to engineering students or engineers looking for a job overseas.
The first of these events was held on 27 July, with 20 attendees. With more engineers’ involvement, activities with a more dynamic format will be arranged; such as a lecturing, training and conference video sharing. There are also plans to eventually extend this concept to Shanghai and Guangzhou.
Following the launch of the IET's new main website in 2011, a refreshed China website has also now gone live. In comparison with the previous version, it brings a greatly improved user experience, with better segmentation and content structure.
The homepage mirrors that of the main site, with customised Chinese content for news and events, as well as tailored services for Chinese academic and corporate partners.
A registration function allows those who are interested in getting news from the IET to leave their contact information. The team hopes that this will help to show non-members the value that can be provided by the IET.
Instead of using mixed languages, Chinese language content is present throughout the site, to help users clearly understand what is on offer. Visitors can click an “English” button to visit the main website and explore more about the IET.
IET China’s Weina Chen said: “I am indeed filled with joy to launch the refreshed China website because of the potential this achievement has in assisting to communicate better with IET members and the public in general. The China website is a critical component of IET global marketing communications mix to lead people to access the world leading knowledge hub on the IET’s English website.”
