Amazing transformation for the IET’s London venue.
As mentioned in an earlier story on Member News online, IET London: Savoy Place has been selected as the host venue for Qatar’s National Olympic Committee during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Ahead of the opening of ‘Bayt Qatar’ (House of Qatar) on 27 July, an incredible range of cosmetic changes were made to the building. In just ten days, nearly all of its rooms were transformed beyond recognition, to capture Qatar’s culture, heritage and sporting achievements.
All three event floors are being used, with themes including women in sport, the use of technology and innovation in enhancing athletic performance, and Qatar’s successful 2022 World Cup bid. All aspects of the transformation promote Qatar’s aspirations to achieve a knowledge based economy over the next ten years. Photos of Bayt Qatar are now available on the IET London: Savoy Place website.
“This is an important time for all London venues and we’re really excited to be involved in this process,” said Sean Spencer, IET Venues and Facilities Manager. “It is a great opportunity for us to showcase the extensive capabilities of the venue and the speed at which this transformation will take place will be a real testament to the team.”
Bayt Qatar will close in the early hours of Monday 13 August, and the venue will reopen for other event bookings from 22 August.
In what is traditionally a quiet season at IET London: Savoy Place, this booking is providing excellent exposure for the venue to senior business and diplomatic delegates.
Looking forward, it will also help the IET to fund its new ‘Diamond Scholarship’ programme, as well as continuing initiatives in education and open events for the engineering and technology community.
