The IET and the Joint Industry Board (JIB) have provided a career pathway for ECS card holders to fast track into professional membership of the IET.
Both government and industry have emphasised the need for industry-wide certification schemes to confirm the levels of competence of properly skilled crafts people and eliminate unsafe working practices. ECS cards are becoming the ‘licence to work’ for many electrician and related electro-technical trades.
To encourage an increase in professionalism across the building and construction industry the IET and the Joint Industry Board (JIB) have provided a career pathway for ECS card holders to fast track into professional membership of the IET. In addition, you can work towards achieving a globally recognised qualification, EngTech, ICTTech, IEng, CEng, which is an important career achievement demonstrating hard work and dedication whilst showing a commitment to your profession.
The IET is offering ECS Installation Electrician Gold and ECS Managerial Platinum and Black card holders a streamlined application to TMIET or MIET membership.
You are eligible to apply under this initiative if you hold a valid ECS Installation Electrician gold coloured card and a JIB enrolment/scheme number.

You can complete the standard membership application form online using your ECS Gold Card or ECS Platinum Card. As an ECS card holder applying online please ensure you select ‘Industrial Qualifications’ and then the appropriate ECS card. You will need to enter your JIB enrolment/scheme number. This will automatically fast track your application to the payment section. The IET logo and your level of membership i.e. TMIET or MIET can be shown on your ECS card provided by JIB.

You need to be a Member to apply for professional registration. Professional Registration is a separate review and application process. The key to applying for professional registration is how you apply your knowledge and understanding and demonstration of your competence; so depending on your work experience and ability to undertake your work you may be eligible to apply for professional registration. You will be entitled to use the appropriate registration designatory letters after your name once the Engineering Council have added your name to their register.
