Profile
Being involved in the RF communications world makes you aware, whether wireless or wired network capability, that converged digital systems give reliable, flexible structures. Cisco is a very big player in network systems and their certification is held in high regard. I therefore studied to attain my CCNA qualification.
Career History
I work in the Armed Forces as a communications engineer. I joined the Royal Navy as a 17 year old in 1982. After spending initial training time on a Frigate, I have been working on submarines since 1987 as a communications engineer. I have seen the gradual progression from analogue stand-alone to modern network-integrated communications systems.
The IET
I joined the IET for the peer respect and the independent recognition of my qualifications and experience. I think holding both positions, IET membership and the Cisco Certification, complement each other. Backing up my Cisco Certification with the experience that being a full member of the IET bestows informs people I have verifiable skills and experience within the IT industry.
