Information and guidance for IET mentoring co-ordinators on arranging local network mentoring events.
A mentoring awareness event (evening) introduces mentoring as an interesting and thought-provoking subject which would inform members interested in becoming mentors, as well as those wishing to find mentors. These are probably not appropriate to be held on too regular a basis, but could be repeated every one to two years depending on the size of the local network.
Leading on from these are the mentor training workshops (evenings) which go into greater depth about the mentoring process, and provide training for those wishing to offer their services as mentors for the IET's mentoring service.
Mentoring Co-ordinators may also be interested in organising mentor support meetings. These are beneficial in allowing local mentors to network, share experiences and explore issues. Meetings may be arranged around existing events, or as a separate activity.
Whichever format, these will be friendly and informal social gatherings.
Contact your local network chairman or regional co-ordinator for information on how to include this event in the local network event programme.
