Mentors are useful at any stage in a member's career but particularly at times of rapid development or major change. They are people who will listen, challenge and help members review their progress in order to encourage them to make the most of their opportunities and progress in their careers. Mentors may have completely different backgrounds from those of the people they are helping. A mentoring relationship is likely to last some time and it is likely that several meetings will take place.
Registering as an IET mentor enables you to:
On receipt of your mentor registration form, the IET will register you as a mentor on to our central database. You will then be sent a letter and mentor welcome pack containing a variety of information on mentoring and mentor training. Please note: the role of a mentor is voluntary and unremunerated.
When an application for a mentor is received, we search our database for the most local mentor to the mentee. Details of your mentoring linking will be sent to you by email to the address stated on your mentor registration form.
Mentoring service co-ordinators
Most local networks have a mentoring service co-ordinator who act as a local point of contact to inform mentors of any mentoring meetings in your area and to assist with any mentoring issues you may have.
