13. Members shall exemplify professional behaviour generally and specifically in their relationships with the Institution, its employees and their fellow members.
Treating people fairly is part of professional behaviour. This rule is concerned specifically with members’ duties to each other and to the professional body.
Bye-law 29. Persons in any category of membership shall at all times uphold the dignity and reputation of their profession, act with fairness and integrity towards everyone with whom their work is connected, and towards other members and safeguard the public interest in matters of health, safety, the environment and otherwise.
The groups of people affected by engineers’ actions can be quite wide-ranging, and can include the public at large. Acting with fairness in this context includes being clear on which groups are connected with your work.
