About this event
Over 500,000 knee replacements are performed each year with only 5% failing within 10 years. However, unlike hip replacements, patients are aware of the artificial joint and function can be variable. Computational modeling may allow designs to be developed that are tolerant of variability between patients and surgical technique. With advances in computers in surgery, similar tools may also help the surgeon choose which implant would be best for a patient and how to orientate to maximise its life.
