Air Commodore Bonner was Chief Experimental Navigation Officer at Boscombe Down where part of his remit included both Nimrod MR Mk2 and AEW Mk3 "release to service testing"; after a tour as Deputy Director Navigation Services in MOD, he was Station Commander at RAF Waddington during the death throes of the Nimrod AEW and the preparations at Waddington for the Sentry E-3D. After another very brief tour in the Operational Requirements Branch in MOD, he was promoted to Air Commodore and sent to SHAPE Headquarters in Belgium as Deputy Commander of NATO AEW.
The lecture will cover the origins of the Force in the mid 1970s, the reasons for the demise of the Nimrod AEW, the development of the Force and its current and recent operations.
