About this event
The lecture is open to all members and the general public and it will describe advances in the bio-acoustic detection and identification of insect species living inside wood such as packing crates and live trees. The main application of this work is in bio-security, i.e. the early detection of insect larvae in imported materials. The talk will cover sensing and signal detection methods, signal processing and pattern recognition.
The lecture will be preceded by a visit to the University’s Electrical and Electronic Department’s research facilities at 2pm, followed by high tea at 4.45pm in the Roger Kirk Dining Facility.
Registration
The visit is limited to 30 members and early registration is recommended. Those wishing to take tea should also register their interest on the reply slip in the newsletter or by contacting Dr Dick Etheridge.
