About North Yorkshire Network

Chairman's review

Since the formation last autumn of the North Yorkshire Network, we have made a start on our plan to bring IET events to places where the IEE had not been active for some time. Successful evening lectures have been held in Northallerton and Scarborough, and the planned programme continues this initiative. To welcome engineers in the north of the area who were transferred from Teesside Network, we are planning a local event in early October, “Engineering in Basra”, details to be confirmed later because communication with our speaker, who is currently in Iraq, is not easy.

The wide scope of meetings will be well maintained next spring when we will host an evening at the Acomb Cold War Bunker in York, with a former Commander on hand to answer technical questions. We are also planning a talk on Church Organs by IET Vice President David Howard, possibly in York Minster, or perhaps in Ripon.

Strictly practical matters will be addressed on 10 February when there will be afternoon and evening sessions (at a venue to be decided) to explain the Seventeenth Edition of the IEE (sic) Wiring Regulations. We hope this will attract members and non-members with a serious need to get to grips with the wording before it comes into force in July 2008.

The social side is not being ignored, and we plan to repeat our highly successful three evenings of gliding lessons, in June 2008.

Our Committee is, as you see, enthusiastic and creative, but it is small in numbers and new blood would be very welcome.
