Britain has the best offshore wind resource in Europe. 50GW of projects are planned representing an investment of around £150 Billion. But building the wind farms is only part of the story. Connecting offshore wind farms to the onshore grid presents a whole string of challenges - planning, regulation, financing as well as the practical issues of trying to put electrical equipment in the midst of the sea. This talk will cover these technical and non-technical issues, progress to date and the future for offshore electricity grids.
