About Shropshire Network

Welcome to the 2007 / 2008 session of the Shropshire Local Network. Hopefully your programme booklet and newsletter has just dropped through your letter box giving full details of the programme. Full details are also available on the IET website at http://www.theiet.local/shropshire, this includes an electronic copy of the programme.

Once again we have a wide variety of events on offer. Alternative Energy continues to feature strongly including biomass and combined heat and power generation. Some interesting automotive presentations including the JCB Dieselmax and Westfield Sports Cars. The Summer visit provides a chance to visit the wind farm at Carno, Newtown first hand. As last year, the number of events has been increased to include ones in January, April and May, we hope this continues to prove popular.

Our first event of the year is on the 2nd October at SCAT, this combines our AGM and first event.

The AGM starts at 6.00 p.m. this is a chance to find out what your committee has been up to over the last year. Why not come along and quiz the chairman, and or get involved with future events.

This is followed as 7.15 p.m. by a presentation from Enginuity in Telford. on Engineering Development. Enginuity has recently been awarded the contract to run SETNET in Shropshire. This is a chance to find out how young engineers are being enthused. Why not get involved through supporting engineering activities in Shropshire schools by becoming a science and Engineering Ambassador SEA. and joining the new schools Faraday activity programme being set up by the IET.

For further details of the programme review the Events pages and calendar.

Why not join the Shropshire Local Network List Server and get up to date details of events delivered to your desktop.

As usual we are jointly organising the events in conjunction with the local IMechE. If you have any ideas for future events please contact us, we will gladly consider them.

Professional Registration Adviser

The Shropshire Local Network are still looking for Professional Registration Advisers, formerly membership advisers. These are extremely rewarding roles assisting engineers in progressing and developing their professional membership. Two local members have expressed an interest but we are still hoping to attract others If anyone would like to explore the role in more detail in the first instance please email Richard Gibson rgibson@theiet.org, who will be able to put you in touch with an appropriate person within the professional staff of the IET.

IET

The Shropshire Local Network IET has been formed from Shropshire Local Network IEE members and Shropshire IIE members. It has been up and running from the beginning of April 2006. We hope you find our web pages informative and useful. Any feedback on the content or presentation of the information on these pages would be appreciated. Do not hesitate to ask for other information relevant to the Shropshire Local Network that you would like displaying.

Shropshire Local Network IET is part of the West Midlands area. Regular meetings are taking place to discuss and promote regional projects and events, etc. If you would like to get involved and have any thoughts please email them to Richard Gibson.
