Between July and September 2010, a team of intrepid students and graduates from Imperial College London drove down the pan-American highway from Alaska to Argentina in an electric vehicle they built themselves. As if this wasn’t arduous enough, the chassis they chose to use was a modified track racing car with minimal ground clearance and no windscreen! Dr Howey will be telling the story of how the project came together, how the car was built and some of the adventures and experiences of the team along the way. He will give some more general reflections on electric vehicles and the future of passenger car transport. Dr David Howey is a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of
Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London.
