The Electronics & Communications Technical Network has the challenging task of providing a forum for many disciplines within the realms of electronics, communication technologies, software applications and process control systems, to name but a few. The section was established with the aim of providing an environment for members to meet with colleagues, and specialists, whilst being afforded with opportunities to become acquainted with many diverse subject areas.
These can range from historical developments, through modern systems, to future technologies. This year’s programme includes a fascinating talk from the BBC regarding the reconstruction of colour video from black and white footage, and an absorbing lecture exploring the history and evolution of radio amateur satellite communication.
Corus will also be describing their recently completed £60m energy saving project that recovers gas for utilisation in other areas of the Port Talbot site. This reduces CO2 emissions by 240kt each year and the development will reduce natural gas purchases by 60% and enable the steelworks to generate additional electricity.
Members and guests are welcome to all events, and each meeting is typically concluded with refreshments, and an opportunity for informal chat. The section can only flourish with your attendance at these informative and enjoyable events, and I encourage you to further support us with your ideas and feedback, so that we may evolve and enrich our services to you. Please do engage with us and exploit every opportunity we can offer you in the year ahead.
I look forward to meeting with you at one of our events.
