About Wales South East Network

Arshad Rasul, Chairman of Wales South East Network

Chairman's welcome

I am delighted to be taking up the position as chairman for the Wales South East Network for the next two years.

The committee are, as always, working hard to organise a good set of lectures and events to keep the membership up to date, informed, and hopefully entertained.

It is up to you all to make best use of these.  A good attendance at these events is the best reward we on the committee can ask for, in recognition of the considerable time that we all put into organising them.

As we enter into this year the challenges for us as Engineers has never been so great.  Global warming, ever greater demands on natural resources, and a global economic downturn, will require technological solutions to reduce the impact on the environment,  make more efficient use of natural resources, and to maximise efficiencies and innovation to compete in an ever more competitive global community. Our series of lectures over the next session will be looking into these challenging areas.

Being part of a world renowned institution such as the IET and making use of it to support your knowledge and expertise, is the best way to help further your career and to contribute positively into the community in which we all live and work.

I very much look forward to seeing you at the events over the coming year.

 Arshad Rasul CEng FIET

Chairman
Wales-South East Local Network. 2008 - 2009

About the Wales South East Network

There are two IET Regions in Wales, the North Wales Region and the South Wales Region. In the South Wales Region there are two Local Networks, the Wales South West Local Network (centred around the Swansea area) and the Wales South East Local Network (centred around the Cardiff area).

Within the Wales South East Local Network there are four operating committees.

Each of the four committees of volunteer members arrange a programme of some three to six events per year. The Local Network events are of a general technical nature, the Technical Network events are more specific to their specialties and the Younger Member's programme includes events such as life skills seminars, IET introduction to new students, getting chartered, web casts and technical visits etc.

Both IET members and non-members are welcome to attend these events. However, it is strongly advised that anyone wishing to attend an event informs the organiser or contact for the event of their intention at least one week in advance of the event. This gives the organiser the opportunity to ensure there is sufficient accommodation and refreshments.

In addition to the above four committees there is also the Electronics and Communications Technical Network which is administered by the Wales South West Network and arranges events in both the Swansea area and the Cardiff area

Did you know?

To receive notifications by post and email of events and activities in other Local Networks you can become an 'Honorary Member' of that Network?

This can be done online by logging into 'MyIET' on the IET web-site and visiting the 'My Networks' area in MyIET Extra. Simply select the Networks you are interested in from the drop down menu and click 'add'. You can remove your 'Honorary Membership' of a Network in the same way.

If you do not have online access you can speak to a Member and Customer Service Advisor on 01438 765678 or email membership@theiet.org quoting your membership number.
