About this event

We face changing – and challenging – times in the international space community. The Shuttle space transportation system is now confined to museums, but leaves the legacy of the International Space Station, orbiting 250 miles above our heads at 17,000 miles an hour. Here in the UK we are enjoying the formation of a new national space agency and the selection of our first astronaut. But what does this mean and why do we do it?

About the speaker

Our presenter Chris Brunskill, will aim to show how we have engineered our technology to allow humans to both visit our solar system and deep into our universe through human spaceflight missions and our robotic avatars. He will continue to talk about new discoveries that have resulted from these missions, how it changes the way we view our solar system and how we consider the future.

Chris Brunskill works at the Surrey Space Centre in Guildford, is a PhD student at the University of Surrey, and the winner of the 2011 Sir Arthur Clarke Awards.
