About Berkshire Network

Chairman's welcome

Dear Berkshire members,

2008 is here! I hope that you have enjoyed the festive Christmas season. On behalf of the IET Berkshire Local Network committee, I wish you a Joyous New Year 2008 and the very best in realising the plans you have for this year!

Last year 2007 has been very eventful with a range of lectures that we brought to you on various aspects of engineering and technology e.g. Sony PS3, Great Transport Debate, Nanotechnology, Wind Farms, Satellite Communications and Railways in 2030.

I hope that you managed to catch and experience some of these events. If not, it is not too late as this year will be even more buzzing with activities for you! As always, your feedback on past events as well as your valuable suggestions for events that you would like to see in Berkshire are most welcome.

In 2008, you will also see further developments with the IET Berkshire website (www.theiet.org/berkshire) as it takes a new look and becomes the centre of information for you as local members to access events details, register, view slides videos and event photos, useful IET links and information about the committee - who we are, what we do and how you can get in touch to shape the future!

Talking about the future, we are actively participating in some events with local schools and universities this year. If you are keen to get involved in encouraging the next generation of engineers, please get in touch with us.

You will also find information about the IET "Present around the World" and "Write around the World" competitions. Please have a look at writing a few pages or being able to successfully present an engineering or technology-related activity that you may be doing could give you the opportunity to tour the world and spread your message. Good luck!

I hope that you will make the most of what your local IET network has to offer this Spring. We look forward to welcoming you at our events in this New Year. The committee is open to hear your ideas and suggestions for us to continue improving.

As engineers and technologists we are always aiming to find a better way to create amazing things and I believe that with all our energy, there is no better place than the Thames Valley for these to happen!

Let's make it happen together.
