Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are an emerging market, and are challenging the way in which acceptability is argued and safety information is presented.
Altran Praxis has been involved with unmanned systems for many years now. This talk explores some of the differences to manned aircraft considerations, and shares some of the experiences of successfully arguing safety to allow UAVs to enter military service.

Altran Praxis (HQ in Bath) www.altran-praxis.com is a specialist systems and software house, focused on the engineering of systems with demanding safety, security or innovation requirements. It provides safety engineering for prime contractors supplying UAVs to various customers.
Paul Chinneck is an experienced safety engineer with over 15 years experience, specialising in the aerospace domain, with particular knowledge of rotary wing and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle systems. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Certified Safety Professional and a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
In his role as Technical Authority for Altran Praxis, Paul provides technical direction to achieve project goals, assuring the integrity of the safety engineering work performed by Praxis. Paul is responsible for the generation of Safety Cases for UAVs. He also provides safety advice and support to companies supplying equipment and services to prime contractors’ UAV projects.
