Dear Member,

At a Regional level we are working closely with other IET local Committees to deliver large scale events for our members and also to develop the identity and role of the IET South West Region.

During the previous year, more than 20 lectures and seminars were held in the main towns across our area. Lecture themes of manufacturing, aeronautics, nuclear power, transport, project management, sustainable energy and digital media again reflected local interests. These were complemented by Life Skills workshops. The setting up of our Young Professionals section is also well in hand and hopefully this will develop in future seasons.

Given over 400 attendees at the year’s events, the mixed topic approach we have developed over many years obviously continues to prove very appealing. Post presentation dinners in Bath again proved very popular with good attendances and a few events were cosponsored with sister institutions.

For this current year, a diverse programme of lectures, visits, membership service seminars and social events has been organised that again covers a breadth of subjects which we hope will meet your requirements. The events planned are focussed on the main towns of Bath, Bridgwater, Chippenham, Taunton and Yeovil.

Thanks to significant efforts in the the previous session session, we have an active Young Professionals section which we need to continue to support and build this coming year. All Young Professional events are open to all our members and indeed all members are actively encouraged to attend as we maintain the forward momentum.

The committee exists to represent your interests to the IET and to provide events that will be of interest to you. We invite member’s ideas, opinions and support in order to continuously improve our service. We also need volunteers to get involved and share ownership of particular tasks in order to maintain an active committee and to develop succession planning for the future.

Our main goals are to:

  • Provide a range of lectures and meetings covering electrical, electronic and manufacturing engineering;
  • Provide information and assistance on career development, professional registration and a Continuing Professional Development programme;
  • Encourage young people to join the profession through visits to local schools and colleges by the Schools Education and Liaison Service and public lectures.

We are looking forward to meeting you at one of our upcoming events throughout the region, and welcome all feedback from you – you can find our events calendar as well as our contact details on this website.

For a full listing of our events throughout the session, please also see the events calendar on this website.
