Safety critical systems are used to achieve an acceptable level of safety for personnel, industrial applications, asset protection, and environmental damage. The talk will deal with the technology and will provide an overview of current good practice. Issues that have been raised in recent major incident investigations will be addressed. The requirements of international standard IEC 61508 and associated standards will be discussed.
