About this event
The Royal Navy will shortly take delivery of the world's first electrically propelled combative warship HMS Daring, Type 45 Destroyer. This ship will join a fleet that is growing in utilising electric propulsion and reflects the fact that the UK Royal Navy is at the forefront of exploiting electric propulsion technologies. This lecture presents the history of electric propulsion in the UK Royal Navy and the reasons why it is chosen over other forms of propulsion, rounding off with an insight into the benefits of what tomorrow's electric propulsion technology may bring.
Note: This is not the same lecture as the one entitled 'The electric warship' which was presented in Fareham on 6 February 2007. It is effectively a sequel to that lecture and reflects Royal Navy experience with the technology.
