Scotland South West Younger Members Section

Welcome from the Chairman

Welcome to the IET Scotland South West Younger Members’ Network. We would like to encourage you to make full use of your IET membership by attending local events and taking part in activities which are intended not only to keep young engineers abreast of the latest developments, but also allow for some great social events like our world-famous Pub Quiz!

We hope that the events we have arranged for this session are of interest to you. Event information is updated on our web site or sent direct to you via the IET member e-mails. Please feel free to contact us if you have any particular queries about our events. We are particularly open to any new ideas or recommendations for events or activities that we might organise. Perhaps your company or organisation would like to promote itself amongst young engineers with a technical visit or presentation?

If you would like to become more actively involved, we are currently eager to recruit further members for the SWYM committee. This provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience of organising and running a varied programme of events. Experience to be gained includes all the usual CV fodder like teamwork, communication, creative thinking, budgeting, etc, but all in a relaxed and relatively stress-free environment. Please contact myself Ryan Turmilty for further information.

So, take a look over our programme of events, check out the web site and get in touch if you have any queries or suggestions. The SWYM committee looks forward to your support and hopes to meet you at one of our events during the session.

Best Wishes,

Ryan Tumilty
Younger Members' Chairman, Session 2007/08

Who are we?

IET Scotland South West Younger Members represent all the students and young professionals of the IET who live or work in South West Scotland! Our committee are a mix of student & graduate members who meet regularly and organise a wide variety of interesting and professional activities, which allow young members to develop their careers, make contacts, and have fun!

What do we do?

The committee organise a wide range of activities ranging from technical visits, presentations workshops and professional development events, to social events and networking opportunities. In the last few months we’ve organised a CV Workshop, a Technical Visit to Scottish Television, Paintballing and our world famous annual Pub Quiz!

For committee members we hold regular meetings (roughly every month) to plan and organise these events…usually over a few beers!

We are very keen to hear your ideas and suggestions for events or activities you would like to attend. Or if you or your company would like to promote itself amongst young engineers with a tour or lecture, or just to get involved, please get in touch!
All our events are normally open to members and non-members – unless places are limited, in which case we give priority to IET members.

What's next?

Check out our local events to see what we're planning next!
