    About this event

2011 is the 250th anniversary of John Rennie’s birth at Phantassie, East Lothian.

For this talk Professor Paxton will focus on Rennie’s works in Scotland. One of these was his involvement with the design of the Bell Rock Lighthouse whose bicentenary coincidentally is also being celebrated in 2011.

Professor Paxton, after retiring from Lothian Regional Council in 1990, has been engaged in teaching and research in engineering history and conservation at Heriot-Watt University and lectured extensively at home and abroad.
