    About this event

    About this event

Mr Stephen Jewell of Composite Energy Ltd will give a lecture entitled Coal Bed Methane in Scotland: Mining meets the Oil and Gas Industry.

CBM is the modern term for extracting gas for commercial purposes and is big business in Australia and the US where 10% of all domestic gas production is derived from CBM developments. In Scotland we have significant coal reserves and development of the methane is possible by drilling sophisticated boreholes to tap off the gas either for use in its raw form or to generate power.

CBM exploration began in Scotland in the 1990's. Steve will chart the progress of this fledgling industry, describe the technology and techniques deployed and compare those parts of the world where CBM has been successfully exploited already.
