Safe Nuclear Reactors in a Post-Fukushima World

18:30 Wednesday 8th February 2012, Ty Menai (formerly Technium CAST), Parc Menai, Bangor.
Speaker Dr. John Roberts, Dalton Nuclear Institute, Manchester University.

Construction of nuclear reactors is continuing around the world following the accident at Fukushima. What went wrong at Fukushima? What are the lessons that can be learnt, in particular with respect to the expected new build program in the UK?  This talk will consider the future for nuclear energy in the UK and the impact of the events at Fukushima.  More information and registration details can be found here. Local network open meeting

18:30 Tuesday 20th March 2012, The Oriel, St. Asaph.

Members' meetings are held throughout the year to discuss local and regional events and to catch up on all things related to the IET.  Meetings are informal, open to all members with refreshments available from 18:00 for a 18:30 start and a finishing time of approximately 21.00hrs.  For the full list of scheduled meetings please click this local network open meetings link.

Professional registration workshop

If you intend applying for registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng), ICT Technician (ICTTech) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) in the near future, you may find the IET’s professional registration workshops useful and informative.  The workshop allows you to discuss your application on a one to one basis with a professional registration advisor.  The workshop will be held at

IET Wiring Regulations 17th Edition Amendment 1, BS 7671:2008 (2011)

The BS 7671:2008(2011), also known as the IET 17th Edition Wiring Regulations Amendment 1, published 1st July 2011 
became the standard for all domestic and industrial installations designed after 1st January 2012. Stakeholders from 
professional engineers and electricians to lecturers and students can get familiar with the new sections and changes.  
Amendment No 1 contains changes and new sections to align with European documents.  Additionally, a new suite of QCF 
qualifications is replacing the old NCF qualifications. (Example; City and Guilds 2394, 2395 and 2396 replaces 2391 
Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations.) What are they and how will stakeholders be affected?  
Tony Cable and Darren Staniforth will answer these and other questions in this evening’s presentation.

IET Funding for Local Network Schools Activities

The IET considers funding projects for delivery in schools that have had the endorsement of the local network.  Up to £5,000 is available for projects and activities.  If you, or an organisation you have an involvement with wishes to be considered for funding, contact the Wales North Education Liaison Officer, Mr Ken Newis for details of the guidelines and an application 

Local network award for student excellence
