Construction of nuclear reactors is continuing around the world following the accident at Fukushima. What went wrong at Fukushima? What are the lessons that can be learnt, in particular with respect to the expected new build program in the UK? Two reactors, the Westinghouse AP1000 and the Areva EPR, are being considered for the UK market, but how would these designs perform in extreme circumstances. This talk will consider the future for nuclear energy in the UK and the impact of the events at Fukushima.
