About the Wales North network

A letter from the Wales North Network chairman

October 2011

Dear Member

Wales North Paul Kinsey As the new Chairman for Wales North Local Network I am delighted to present to you our programme of events for 2011-2012. This year the programme is being presented in the form of a booklet titled ‘Combined Calendar of events’ and brings together the event calendars of several institutions and organisations. The organizing committee hope that you find the ‘Combined Calendar of events’ a useful source of information. If you have any comments about or thoughts on how to improve the events, please let us know. We are all very approachable.

Your committee work hard to produce a varied and interesting programme of events but inevitably some events do change due to unforseen circumstances or the precise dates of events cannot be determined at an early stage. We always recommend that you check our website for the latest information. Also consider enabling email notification to receive event emails, this can be done from the My account section within the MyIET area of the IET website. The IET would like everyone to book events before they attend so numbers can be gauged, this can be done via our website, via the link on the invitation email, by contacting the event ‘champion’ or myself. Our events are open to members and non-members. Once again, your help is greatly appreciated.

If you have an idea for an event, visit or presentation talk, that interests you, then please let us know. Our Forward Planning Officer for 2012-2013, Ken Newis, is seeking ideas right now for such events and he would appreciate hearing from you. Email Ken at ken.newis@ic24.net or give him a call on 01248 714904. If you feel that you could give some time in helping to organize either an event or collaborate to organize the event, then please contact myself or one of your local committee members, perhaps at one of the events, or come along to a Network meeting, all details are on our website, we welcome your help.

You have not missed the first event in the calendar planned for September - Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm. Unfortunately this event has been put back to the 2012-2013 programme. This years’ events programme starts with a visit to Deeside Power Station on 19/10/2011. We also have a full November of events starting with the Bangor University Lecture on 17/11/2011, a professional registration clinic at UPM Shotton Paper Mill, Deeside (date yet to be confirmed) and an additional event to note which is not in the calendar - a lecture by Richard Noble, Project Bloodhound Director in association with the Wrexham Science Festival on 23/11/2011. The lecture will take place at Glyndŵr University, Wrexham. You will also have the opportunity to see a replica of the Bloodhound Super Sonic Car.

I would like to close by thanking all committee members and active participants for their help in producing this programme. I would also like to introduce the new Vice-Chairman, Ian Cook and Secretary, Chris Wheldon. Cedric Belloc continues as our Treasurer.
