    About this event

Safety lies at the heart of the aviation industry. When an incident or accident occurs, highly skilled accident investigators consider every aspect, not to allocate blame, but to prevent similar accidents happening in the future. It is the combination of hard engineering and scientific skills with an appreciation of the ‘softer’ aspects of human performance that have allowed accident investigators to continuously improve the safety of air transport. The lecture will consider the role of aircraft accident investigators including how they develop the many skills which are required.

Graham Braithwaite is Professor of Safety and Accident Investigator and Head of the Department of Air Transport at Cranfield University. He holds a PhD in Aviation Safety Management and is Course Director for the world-renowned Aircraft Accident Investigation course which trains investigators for the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch.
