The annual Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Teesside Network held their annual dinner and reunion event at the Thistle Hotel in Middlesbrough. The event provided excellent networking opportunities for engineering in the Tees Valley area as well as attracting both corporate and individual support.
Two hundred and four people attended the event along with guest speakers Mick Thurlbeck, Chief Executive of the Tees Valley Engineering Partnership and Stewart McFarlane MBE, Local Broadcaster.
The evening was a success raising a total of £1890 for local charities including the Butterwick Hospice (£630), Help for Heroes (£315), Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum (£315) and the IET’s own charity IET Connect (benevolent fund) (£630).
The IET Local Network Prize for Student Excellence is designed to reward excellence in students studying at higher or further education establishments on courses that fall within the IET’s engineering and technical interests.
Local engineering star Adrian Crowe, 24 from Hartlepool picked up a cheque for £250 after receiving the IET Local Network Prize for Student Excellence. Adrian who is studying for a Certificate in Engineering at Hartlepool College of Further Education was awarded the prize by the local network to recognise his outstanding achievement.
Steven Wallis, Head of Division at the college said: “Adrian Crowe is part of an apprenticeship cohort we run with TTE for British Energy. Adrian has recorded 11 from 11 Distinctions on his National Certificate in Engineering this year. He follows previous IET winner Steven Ackerly and Darren Smith in winning the Best Engineering Project as Part of our Skills Challenge week and also went on to win the overall Skills Champion for the full college (over 1000 students competed in May 2009).
He’s a smashing student, keen to learn and push the boundaries of the qualification specification in terms of acquiring additional knowledge, his attendance, attitude and attainment are simply first class. He has a very positive work ethic and will no doubt prove a real asset to British Energy in the next few years. In short, I can't think of a better nomination.”
