Chairman's welcome

I wish you a warm welcome to the Northumbria Network for the 2008-2009 session. It was a privilege to chair your committee last year and we look forward to bringing you an interesting series of lectures and events again this year. All lectures are free to attend and you don't have to register.

I am pleased to welcome some new members to our committee: Colin Herron of One North East has joined our Manufacturing Specialist team and Graham Ballantyne is our new Webmaster. Martyn Walsh has taken over as Chairman of the Younger Members section and Waleed Ahmed has taken on the important role of Schools Liaison Officer.

This year we intend to make much better use of the IET website for publicising local network news, events and activities. If you have any topics you would like to publicise on the website, please let one of the committee members know. Also, why not add the IET Northumbria Network website to your browser Favourites ?

I encourage our younger members to make the most of the services provided by the IET to help you in your career development. Attending our lectures provides valuable evidence of continuing professional development. You might also consider becoming an active member by joining one of our specialist teams - this always looks good on your CV !

Please email your Committee if you have any suggestions on how we can develop your local network to respond better to your needs. I look forward to seeing you at some, or all, of our events we have planned for this session.
