Welcome to the IET Northumbria Network
Chairman's welcome
Dear Member
New Year Letter from the IET Northumbria Network
I am writing to thank you for your continued support of The IET and in particular the Northumbria Network. It is the members of the Network that make it what it is. We aim to deliver a balanced programme of events through the session, ranging from technology lectures, ICT Lectures, Medical lectures, life skills events to the annual Student Projects competition.
Our next event is entitled ‘Seeing Rivers with Sound’, on 22 February 2010 at Northumbria University, room A101, commencing at 6.15 pm. Refreshments will be served in Rutherford Hall from 5.30 pm. Dr Crispian Oates will consider the similarities in fluid flow between rivers and the flow of blood in the circulation. He will go on to show how non-invasive assessment of that flow may be made, using imaging and Doppler ultrasound to investigate arterial disease.
In March there is a presentation on Tidal Power, the annual Students Projects competition, this year to be held at Durham University and ‘Cloud computing for e-Science’ presented by Professor Paul Watson
All of the Networks events are published on the local network website, which is located here: http://www.theiet.org/local/uk/northeast/northumbria/index.cfm
Publishing events onto the website allows the Network to provide up to date information to members throughout the Network. If you use Microsoft Outlook or other iCalendar compatible software, you can simply click on an event and it will be added automatically to your electronic diary.
It is therefore important that members who wish to receive alerts to upcoming events and newsletters should update your details on the MyIET section of the website and opt into receiving email alerts. If you do not currently receive IET emails about local events then you are not opted in! Of course, if you do not wish to opt in to email alerts you can always access the website directly at any time.
The Northumbria Network Committee is made up entirely of Volunteers who have a desire and passion to provide a balanced programme of events for the members of the Northumbria Network.
A number of opportunities have arisen for dynamic people to join the Northumbria Network Committee. The Network are looking for volunteers who would like to take advantage of the excellent opportunities to get involved in the local IET community and help to develop that vital "external perspective", that is necessary in today's job market and also for professional registration. Involvement with the committee is an excellent way to develop organisational skills and extend your network of contacts within the professional engineering arena.
The Network is aware how busy everybody is these days – with many members working long hours or commuting extensively, however the level of involvement/ commitment is entirely up to you. Should you join the Committee you can contribute how and when is most convenient and you need not feel locked in or trapped.
The vacancies are as follows:

Many thanks for your continued support within the Network.
Yours Sincerely,
Craig.
