Welcome to the IET Peterborough and Huntingdon Network

Chairman's Message

To all IET members in Peterborough & Huntingdon

Would you like to meet up with fellow-engineers from other organisations?
Do you want to expand your own skills while contributing something to your profession?
Are you interested in attracting the next generation of engineers?
What ideas do you have for your local IET community?

If the above questions have spurred you into action, become involved! You do not need lots of spare time – many of our committee are busy people. The area of involvement and the amount of time you spend is up to you. Possibilities (not an exhaustive list) are:

Schools liaison
University liaison or accreditation
Company liaison or accreditation
Network Committee member
Publicity (members and/or local community)
Webmaster
Arranging a visit or event
Liaison with other professional institutions
IET member recruitment
IET Connect (benevolent fund)
EEESTA Annual Prestige Seminar
Mentoring other engineers
Professional Registration advice

Any of these would be an excellent way of extending your network of contacts within the professional engineering arena, or simply expanding your personal horizons.

In addition to the visits and lectures of the past year, the local network will present awards for excellence to engineering students at Peterborough Regional College (PRC) on Thursday 17th September 2009 and Huntingdon Regional College (HRC) on Thursday 2nd July 2009. The network will continue to maintain this sponsorship in the coming year, and is keen to encourage the next generation of engineers.

If you feel there are other fields of interested not covered by the programme, please do get in touch, as your feedback is imperative in ensuring that we continue to meet the needs of our IET community. You can find contact details on the 'Contacts' page of this web site or in the GPPBG diary (www.gppbg.org). As ever, guests are always welcome, so if you feel your friends and associates would be interested in attending an event then please do invite them along.

IET members of all grades and ages are always welcome as new committee members to join the senior or younger members committee. We always encourage ‘new blood’ to refresh our Network and the widest possible range of people will help us to maximise our relevance in Peterborough and Huntingdon.

If you’re inspired, e-mail grantsmith@theiet.org without any obligation, expressing your area(s) of interest. Include on the email a suitable telephone number and preferred time if you want to discuss matters on the phone. Alternatively, you could meet the team at one of our upcoming events.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Grant Smith, CEng MIET
Chairman
IET Peterborough & Huntingdon Network
