BEAGLE’S ABOUT: Prof Colin Pillinger, centre, with, left to right, Fred Davis (P&H past Chairman), Grant Smith (P&H Vice Chairman), Cllr John Peach, Mayor of Peterborough Councillor Marion Todd, Alan Scott (P&H Chairman) Lisa Todd and Moshin Dharas (P&H PR & Media) who organised the lecture.

SCORES of people spent a fascinating evening hearing the recollections of a world-renowned scientist. Space fans packed into the Holiday Inn, in Thorpe Wood, Peterborough, to hear top scientist Professor Colin Pillinger’s take on man’s 50 years of exploring the solar system.

And the mastermind behind Britain’s Beagle 2 space probe did not disappoint his fans at the event.

One of them, city council leader John Peach said: “It was absolutely fantastic. I’ve always been interested in rockets and space exploration.

“He was very entertaining and he went through the history of space travel and his part in the Beagle 2 craft that he designed."

“It was really interesting and it’s fantastic to get someone like that to come to the city.”

Prof Pillinger was keen to inject humour into his lectures and used centuries-old cartoons to poke fun at some of the early attempts to conquer space.

The lecture was organised by Moshin Dharas PR & Media for the Peterborough & Huntingdon Local Network, pictured here with Prof Pillinger:

Another recent activity of the Peterborough Section was to award a certificate and trophy for excellence in an engineering HNC course to David Morris who studied at Peterborough Regional College. David attained a distinction in every module of the HNC Engineering course at PRC. The prize also included a cheque for £250 from the IET. Pictured below is Moshin Dharas (IET PR & media from PRC), David Morris, Fred Davis (IET P&H LN Chairman) & Mick Ross (IET P&H LN Treasurer) at Peterborough Cathedral where the award ceremony took place on Thursday 27th September 2007.
