The Middle Level Commissioners have responsibility for the flood defence of 26,000 properties and 100,000 people as well as a large area of high grade agricultural land in the Fens, between the River Nene and the Old Bedford river. To achieve this they have recently opened the new St Germans Pumping Station which can move 100 tons of water per second, and is the largest flood risk management pumping station in the UK. This is an opportunity to visit the station and have a guided tour.
