The number one target for the BLOODHOUND SSC world land speed record attempt is not speed. It is to inspire and enthuse the next generation of scientists and engineers. Announced to the press by Lord Drayson (DIUS science and innovation minister) last October, the education programme will consist of many current initiatives using a BLOODHOUND theme. These include Engineering Explained Roadshows, Greenpower, Young Engineers, F1 in Schools, Primary Engineer, plus many others and an education visitor centre at the build site. Kate Bellingham has developed an Ambassador toolkit for STEM Ambassadors (previously known as SEA’s) that would like to promote the BLOODHOUND SSC adventure during their school/college visits.
The Education Team will be releasing curriculum linked material via the BLOODHOUND SSC website for use in school/college through the duration of the project. This is a 3 year project, culminating in the attempted world land speed record of 1000mph in 2011/12; so there is time for to get involved!
