Young Professional Competitions

Write Around the World Competition

Win a trip around the world! All you have to do is write a paper (between 2000 - 3000 words in length) on a topic appropriate to the activities of the IET and submit it.  Entries are now being accepted for the 2009 WATW Competition.  The winner will be announced in June next year.

Present Around the World (PATW) Competition

The competition is open to all students, apprentices and young professionals who have graduated with the last 7 years.  Competitors at local network competitions do not need to be members of the IET. Competitors at Regional, Country and International Final stages must be members of the IET.

Stage 1 - Local Competition

This competition is hosted by the local network.  All you have to do is do a 10 minute presentation on an engineering or technology subject and answer questions by the audience for a further 5 minutes.  The judging is split 25% technical content, 75% presentation skills, enabling young professionals at varying levels of their studies or career to participate.  

Prize:

  • Winner receives NZD$400, a certificate, student membership for one year and qualifies for the regional final
  • Runner up receives NZD$200, a certificate and student membership for one year
Stage 2 - Regional Final (New Zealand and Australia)

Winners from local PATW events in New Zealand and Australia compete at regional level to qualify for the Global PATW Final in the UK.  

Prize: 

  • Winner receives £400, a certificate and qualifies for the Global Final
  • Runner up receives £200 and a certificate

Stage 3 - Global PATW Final

The regional winner qualifies for the Global PATW Final and competes amongst four other finalists from all over the world. The Global Final is held at the IET Ambition and Achievement Awards Ceremony in November. 

Prizes: 

  • Winner receives £1000 cash and a certificate
  • Runner up receives £500 cash and a certificate.
