The IET supports over 100 Local Networks that exist in a number of locations around the world.
Local Networks (often referred to as LNs) are groups of members that come together to deliver a series of activities designed to promote the importance of science, engineering and technology to the general public, encourage young people to enter the professions, and provide opportunities for engineers to share and develop knowledge and network with each other.
The IET has five global regions, and there is a communities committee in each region responsible for the activities of the Local Networks. Information on the communities committees and the Local Networks and activities within each region can be found below:
If there isn’t a Local Network within the area where you live or work and you would like to run an activity or set up a Local Network, then please contact the communities committee within one of the regions above.
MyCommunity is the IET's online social collaboration platform which enables individuals to connect, share knowledge, ideas and opportunities with a specific network of individuals. It enables IET volunteers, members and non-members the opportunity to engage with like-minded people and collaborate on projects and activities for the benefit of the global science, engineering and technology community. IET members can request new community groups, as a hub to share documents, videos, and web content.
For more information, please visit MyCommunity.
We have a number of technical and professional networks which are focused on specific technical or professional themes or topics. TPNs are global communities and bring together those working or interested in a particular area.
Further information about IET communities can be found in the communities volunteer area. Here you can find out more about how communities are governed, their structure, committee roles and the resources and support available.
