About Switzerland Network

Welcome to the IET-Switzerland Network web site.

In its new finery, this site endeavours to address many of the comments and suggestions that were received from members over the recent past. We hope the needs of members are now better addressed; but like many good engineering projects, this should be seen as ’work in progress’ which by virtue of your comments and continuous contribution, will improve.

The new site also reflects our continued emphasis on a rich and dynamic interaction not only between the members of the Swiss network but between the Institute and the Swiss Engineering and Technology professionals. As the IET drives towards the vision of becoming a global and interdisciplinary Institute, it will create a natural platform for the global local networks, like ours, for cooperation with our international colleagues. During the rest of this year and throughout 2008, we are working on establishing additional collaboration with engineering institutions and the academics in Switzerland. This will help with our objective to recruit Swiss student members, as they finish their studies and start working in the engineering industry.

We also aim at expanding our activities in the realm of Young Members engineers; hopefully to be the IET members of the future. We are in the advanced stages of developing a pilot case for placing a couple of Swiss Students in UK engineering industry. So far half a dozen leading UK engineering companies have offered places and a number of Swiss Institutions have expressed interest in participation. If successful, I see this as a key landmark in raising the visibility of the IET within the Swiss engineering community.

Retaining up to date professional knowledge resource and helping members with continuing career development are achieved by encouraging the exchange of information, experience and expertise; and designing a programme of topical seminars, visits and events. Some of our events, as in previous years, will aim at promoting the social and cultural aspects of the life of our members. These events have been well attended and widely liked by our members in the past and we will build on that success.

Our effort to be seen by the industry as a neutral and open professional platform for competing engineering organisations to meet, exchange experience & information and to discuss common challenges & future possibilities, is a valuable objective of our work this year. This we hope will raise the profile of the IET, and attracts greater attendance to our events as engineers, members and non-members alike and hence invest their personal time to attend.

Swiss local network aim is to serve the professional engineering community and its members. My intention is to ensure that this mission goes on, and the reputation of the IET is enhanced further and spread wider. In this I know that I can rely on your help and support.
