Italy Network Chairmans Welcome
I am privileged to welcome you to the IET Italian Network, the Italian section of The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) web-site.
The IET -formed in March 2006 by the coming together of the IEE and IIE- is the oldest engineering institution in the world founded in 1871 as a voluntary association under the name of The Society of Telegraph Engineers have now offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, Bangalore, New Jersey, London, Glasgow and Birmingham with almost 100 Local Networks in 34 countries and a global membership of over 150,000 in over 128 countries ranging from students to leading figures in industry, research and development and education.
Our purpose is to represent locally the aims and services of the IET with the vision of sharing and advancing knowledge throughout the global science, engineering and technology community to enhance people’s lives and the mission of building an open, flexible and global knowledge network supported by individuals, companies and institutions and facilitated by the IET and its members.
This is achieved through the organisation of seminars, technical meetings, visits and activities in strong cooperation with universities and industries, either in Italy or abroad. In additions interdisciplinary lectures will be focused on new challenging topics, and will be opened to members and not-members, with the aim of spreading and sharing the IET activities.
Here you will find general information on the centre's activities as well as technical and social events being organised by the Italian Network. If you would like to get involved as a volunteer or committee member I would welcome your support; so please let me know, and even if you would just like to participate in the IET activities in Italy, I would still like to hear from you.
A final note about the language, most of our communications and activities will be in English or in both English and Italian and rarely in Italian only for the precise reason to mark the International dimension of our Institution. We are pioneers of such kind of activities in Italy but I hope you will be challenged and intrigued enough to join and make the Italian Network even more active.
