Phil Dunbar
After graduating from Imperial College, Phil worked with the UK Atomic Energy Authority, his university sponsor, working on alternative energy sources.
Having a strong interest in Radio, he then moved into Telecommunications development with ITT: however, the work was based on cable transmission, moving on to optical receivers.
Once Optical Fibre made its appearance, Phil moved into industrial engineering in optical fibre production in the pilot plant, where he was responsible for the control systems development. The pilot plant was developed into a commercial production facility.
The project management and control aspects of the job led to software development project management in ICL, and development and installation project management in the submarine telephone cable industry with STC.
Following the purchase of STC by Alcatel, Phil was asked to go to Italy to manage a telecoms validation project, and while there his office was closed in the UK! So he agreed to go to Paris for a couple of years as project manager, and has been there ever since. Phil is now technical coordinator responsible for validation of optical telecommunication transmission systems for Alcatel-Lucent Optics.
