About this event
Sports engineering has been used for thousands of years to allow sports men and women to improve their performance. It has become more evident in recent years due to the advances in materials, design and the fundamental understanding of the physics of sport.
This lecture uses high speed video imagery and advanced computer techniques to explain the physics behind popular sports including football, tennis, cycling and sports seen in the Olympic Games. The presentation will describe the design features of modern day sports equipment, explaining their introduction and how manufacturers seek to extract that little 'extra' in performance. The lecture is suitable for all ages, in particular with an interest in sport, technology or both. A scientific background is not necessary and questions are encouraged!
