About Sri Lanka Network
A message from the Chairman M Zubair
The IET Sri Lanka website has been set up to serve local members of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and to coordinate local activities. The local network’s activities include meetings for paper presentations by members including visits, annual sessions and an annual younger member’s session.
The origins of IET Sri Lanka dates back to January 1935 when a group led by Major C. H. Brazel (as first Chairman) formed the Ceylon Local Centre of the Institution of Electrical Engineers with the formulation of the Bye-Laws.
The IET Sri Lanka collaborates with the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL), the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL), the Institute of Physics Sri Lanka (IPSL) and the Engineering Faculties of the Universities in Sri Lanka in many activities in the electrical engineering and related fields.
Since the beginning, the local network has been very active, having formed in 1987 one of the first Younger Members Sections (YMS) of the IEE outside the United Kingdom to encourage the younger members to take an active part in their affairs.
The IET Sri Lanka now not only organises programmes for engineers in industry, and students in engineering, but also annually conducts a popularisation workshop for school children and a programme for Senior Members.
