How do I login?

At the top of each screen there is an opportunity to login. Enter your registered details into the Username and Password boxes and then click the Login box.

If you check the 'Remember me' box then next time you visit the website, you will be automatically logged in. However, you will be asked to provide your username and password during the session if you access any pages containing your personal information.
There is a password reset / username reminder facility available on the IET website where you can request a username reminder and/or reset your password if required.

Once you have successfully logged in, the login and register buttons will be replaced with some 'Welcome' text and a link to MyIET.

How do I request a username/password reminder?

There is a password reset / username reminder facility available on the IET website where you can request a username reminder and/or reset your password.

If your e-mail address has changed from the one that you have registered then you should contact the IET Webmaster for assistance. Please include as much information as possible e.g. surname, old e-mail address, and if you are a member, please include your membership number and date of birth.

What is 'remember me'?

Select 'remember me' if you wish to be logged in automatically when you visit the website. However, you will be asked to provide your username and password during the session if you access any pages containing your personal information.

Why should I login?

If you login to the website then you will have a personal homepage (My IET) which is your portal to control your communications, group memberships etc.

You can also use the IET jobs service and save job searches etc. IET members can manage their membership online, and access member only services e.g. Career Manager, provided a member level account has been registered.

Why did my login fail?

There are a number of reasons why logins fail. Below are a number of reasons:

If you get the message "Unfortunately, we could not validate your details.", The most likely reason for this is that you have entered your username and password incorrectly. Please request a password reset / username reminder if required, and try again. This message may also be displayed on occasions where the Website login system is not functioning.

The login screen carries the message:

"Cookies. Please note that in order to login to the Institution of Engineering and Technology website, you must have Cookies enabled. Please visit our cookies information page if you require more information."

  • The reason for this warning is that cookies are disabled on your browser. Please set your browser to accept session cookies from www.theiet.org and try again.

If you are still unable to log in:

  • Please contact the IET Webmaster with details of the problem, including any error messages that were displayed, the type of browser and platform you are using, whether or not you are connecting via a firewall or proxy server, if there are any security measures on your network that you are aware of that could affect logins and your Institution Membership number or enough information about yourself for us to be able to locate your user account.

Why am I getting "Login Security Warning"?

Login to the IET websites use a secure connection to transmit and verify passwords. Most Web browsers are set by default to display an alert box when users enter and leave a secure connection. The appearance and content of the alert boxes varies between browsers. Some browsers may also ask users to review and accept a site security certificate.
