Hi all,

I have been working in the food industry for 4 years now. I am planning to complete my degree within the next 3 years and once this is finished i would like to start looking into larger scaled industries such as the Oil and Gas industry. What i want to know is what oil and gas specific qualifications would i need to look into working towards gaining if i decided to change? I have seen that C&G have a lot of oil and petro chem quals but i am not certain as to what i should do?

Hello Dan,

The Oil Industry can be a very lucrative job if you are prepared to sacrifice being without your family and friend half the year.
You work long hours in sometimes harsh conditions and must be physically fit and mentally stable.
They have a variety of jobs starting with the enty level jobs, cooks, I.T specialists, engineers etc.
You are paid according to the skill level and qualification.
For more information you can do an online search for ruputable Oil Rig Companies.
Make sure to check them out thoroughly, as there are so many spammers out there.

Hope this helps.

Hi dan, when i completed my degree (whilst working in industry) i moved up to Aberdeen with a new start in oil and gas, like Estpet says you will most probably have to move on a permanent ish basis. If you don't mind that its fine the graduate schemes encourage you to make new contacts and really helps with the move etc.

Oil is a fascinating field, but you have to consider, maybe months even years to see my family and friends, I am also interested in the rig and the sea, but I can not afford, Information Technology majors accounted for most of the time.
